Fearless, Not Reckless.
Trader, podcast host and mindset coach. Movement, Mindset & The Markets.
Hey, I'm Nick. I've spent nearly 20 years in the markets, and the biggest lesson they've taught me is that the edge isn't in the next strategy. It's in you. Your patience, your discipline, your relationship with risk and with yourself. That's what I talk about, write about and coach, every week.
My story
I started trading actively in 2007 on a prop desk in Scottsdale, Arizona. That's where I learned that the market will find every crack in your process, and in your head.
I've had an odd, unique and experience-filled life, and I don't see that stopping. I'm a gym rat who works out five-plus days a week, and when I'm outside you'll find me skiing, mountain biking, hiking and trail running. I've completed my RYT 200 yoga teacher trainings in Vinyasa, Yin and Yoga Detour. I'm also trained in energy work and breath work facilitation. Teacher training put me in constant discomfort, and an old version of me died there. I went in for the physical practice and fell in love with the moving meditation, and with the Eightfold Path. That inward work changed how I see everything, including the markets.
I've always been an entrepreneur and a workhorse at heart. At 12 I was pulling pigeons at the gun club, and as soon as I could drive I was working odd jobs year-round in between sports. I was captain of the track team as a sprinter and hurdler, and an all-state athlete in both track and soccer. I also earned my black belt and was on my way to a second degree, but martial arts took a back seat once I started playing soccer year-round at an extremely high level. Through college I spent summers doing landscaping and construction, and I ran my own stump grinding business on the weekends. I also started valet parking in college, and over five years I ran and grew that company, nearly tripling it from about 70 employees to over 250. In 2009 I started my own parking management company with two partners, which I still own today. While I was in Arizona, I traded on a prop desk during the day and worked as an account manager for a valet company on the side.
When I started on the prop desk, I was a pure day trader. In 2011 I left prop trading to go out on my own and get away from day trading. I joined the Zanger and Ticker Monkey communities and started working on swing and position trading. Ever since, it's been a constant process of holding longer and longer. Today I focus mostly on the weekly charts, but I work top-down. I always start with the monthly, then zoom in to the daily for entries. My style is a blend of Bill O'Neil and Stan Weinstein, shaped by plenty of others along the way. I keep what resonates and drop what doesn't fit me, and the result is my own. Most days you'll find me sharing ideas on Stocktwits and X. I'm deeply grateful for all the friends, acquaintances, teachers and mentors I've met along the way.

Chart Addict Substack X @jfdi Stocktwits @jfdiFearless, not reckless.
Fearless means acting with conviction when the setup is there. Reckless means acting without a plan. The difference is the work you do inside: preparation, patience and knowing yourself. As Livermore put it, “The big money is made by the sittin' and the waitin', not the thinking.”
